Brought to you by The Booty Co.
So, we’ve all mastered our skincare routines, with a carefully planned out list of which products go first and which one’s follow, but have you ever considered that there are other parts besides the face and décolletage that are just as deserving of a carefully curated routine?
While the skin on our bodies is often taken care of in the form of moisturisers and body oils, sometimes even a dry body brush or treatment, it’s our ‘bootys’ that need some extra TLC. Enter The Booty Co, the world’s first entirely booty-based skincare range, created to promote body-positivity and break free from the taboo topic of intimate care.
Below, a deep dive into exactly why you need a booty skincare routine and if it stands up to the hype.
I know it might sound a little bizarre, but The Booty Co’s mission is clear once you find out the story behind it. The brains behind the brand, Kirsty Bronner, is no stranger to the world of all things beauty, working as a beauty therapist and self-tanning technician, before eventually joining the team in a leading Sydney cosmetic clinic, which led her to realise the need for intimate products designed with not just the face or neck in mind.
In 2018, Bronner took the leap to launch what is now The Booty Co, alongside her sister as a co-founder. The brand, which has since gone on to see dizzying success, worked with Australian cosmetic scientists for years before releasing its range, offering up five core products, designed to be used as regularly as your favourite face serums and potions.
In the range you’ll find: The Booty Wash, Lotion and Intimate Area Gel, all designed to be used daily, while the Booty Mask and Scrub formulated to be used just like your weekly treatments. The range is made in Australia, contains ‘no nasties’ and is completely cruelty-free, packed with ingredients like Vitamin E, Witch Hazel and even Collagen Peptides, all designed to give your intimate skin the best it deserves.
I’m sure you’re probably thinking, ‘Why do I even need skincare for my butt?’ It’s an understandable question, and there are a few beneficial reasons why you should consider taking closer care of what you lather over your sensitive areas.
Just like the skin on our face, our butt is prone to the occasional breakout as well. Especially, considering if we’re constantly in activewear and sitting at our desks, the skin could be prone to clogged pores and pimples, as well as being generally dry and irritated. And not all products are created equal, so you don’t want to just lather any old moisturiser across that sensitive skin and call it a day, you want products that are targeted to deal with exactly those issues—which is where The Booty Co comes in.
I put The Booty Co range to the test to see if was really worth the hype.
From the get-go, the sound of adding a routine to keep your butt feeling its best felt a little… odd, to say the least. But as someone who follows a pretty consistent skincare routine, I didn’t think it would make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things—basically, I figured it would be easy enough to just complete them all in one go.
And sure enough, it was as easy as that. In fact, I rarely put in any extra effort into my skin beyond my face and neck, so The Booty Co’s routine lent itself perfectly to moisturise from top to bottom. Especially as the warmer months tend to leave our skin feeling pretty dry.
Here’s a deep dive into the favourite products I tried from The Booty Co.
The Booty Wash, packed to the brim with powerful BHA’s and AHA’s, is designed to gently unclog pores on your sensitive skin (especially for those that regularly use fake tan, SPF and other products), with the mission to reduce breakouts and smooth out skin texture. This particular product is your starting point, and going to make the rest of the skincare routine perform at its best.
In its sweet pink packaging, the Booty Wash felt right at home in my bathroom lineup and was an easy step to remember when lathering up alongside my other favourite cleansers. This is designed to be massaged into the skin for one to two minutes, and either rinsed with water or wiped clean, so you don’t necessarily have to use it in the shower, that’s just what I found most convenient. Its bubblegum scent was very welcome, too.
The Booty Co’s Intimate Area Gel was probably the product I was most sceptical about at first glance, but I was still interested to see if its famed results lived up to the hype. This particular formula, specifically created with sensitive skin in mind, is made without hydroquinone, fragrances, and alcohol, and works by combating exterior hyperpigmentation across your intimate areas, which over time, can become discoloured with hormonal changes, friction and excess pigmentation—think the areas around your bikini line that are often subject to tight clothing.
With regular use, the brand says that your body will “shed old skin cells and form new cells that have less melanin”, and can take up to two weeks to see results. You apply the Intimate Gel to clean, dry skin (I did so after my nightly shower), and while I don’t suffer so much for discolouration, I did notice that after regular use my overall skin tone was slightly more even, and it definitely aided in making the skin around the bikini line much softer and less irritated, especially when wearing activewear and working out regularly.
I love a body scrub, so I knew The Booty Co’s Booty Scrub and I would be a good match. With the tagline, “Polish Your Peach”, it was hard not to fall instantly in love with this particular product, which combines pink Himalayan salt, Jojoba, vitamin E, sweet almond oil and other natural ingredients. The product promises to improve circulation and blood flow to help reduce stretch marks, scars and cellulite, as well as nourish the skin and aid in collagen and elastin production, basically leaving a soft and supple booty in its wake.
To maximise results, the brand says to not use it in the shower, but rather, on dry skin, rubbing in a circular motion until smooth. I really enjoyed this particular product, but as I said, I’ve always been a sucker for a body scrub, and couldn’t recommend it more if you’re looking for a way to improve your skin’s overall texture (especially as swimwear season is upon us).
So, back to the initial question—do you really need a butt skincare routine?
For me, I really enjoyed adding some of The Booty Co’s core products into my daily and weekly routine and really did see a change in the skin in my intimate areas. So, if you’re looking for a way to improve the look and feel of the skin around your sensitive areas, you can’t go past the Intimate Area Gel and Booty Scrub, or if you’re prone to breakouts and clogged pores, I’d definitely consider adding the Booty Wash and Booty Lotion to your routine.
If you’re already overwhelmed by your skincare routine as it is, just consider what areas you’re really wanting to target and improve on and start from there!
