Just as the change in season calls for fresh new pieces for our wardrobe, the change in weather almost always brings with it a desire to mix up our hairstyles too. Whether you’re looking for a complete colour refresh or after an on-trend cut and style to energize your lockdown locks, there’s plenty of inspiration to consider this season.

But as we know, it can be a daunting world to navigate through, so we turned to Australian hairstylist Brad Mullins for a lowdown on exactly which trends we can expect to see in the coming months. From bold and fresh colours, exciting and playful cuts, and even a nostalgic nod to the ‘90s, here are the hairstyles that are going to dominate 2022.

It’s unsurprising Billie’s new blonde locks have sparked a major trend, considering when the singer debuted the look on Instagram the image became the fastest post to ever reach a million likes—so we can expect to see this particular colour and cut everywhere this season.

“Billie Eilish is a modern-day bombshell and I’m here for all of it,” says Mullins. “A client described that this blonde is like someone has turned a light on around their face (I love that!). Kweens we have been in the darkness too long, now let’s step into the light!”

Mullins adds, “Billie’s chop is amazing, it’s got curtain bangs and shag layers—I’m obsessed!”

But while the singer’s look is an amazing one to emulate, as Mullins says it’s going to require a fair bit of upkeep, including regular trims, colour touch-ups and moisturising shampoo and conditioner. The hairstylist suggests using Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Conditioner to help keep your hair looking fresh, as well as the Pantene Intense Collagen Miracle Shots to regularly treat, and if you make sure to take care of your strands properly the colour and health of your hair should stay in tip-top shape.

To Style, Mullins suggests adding these products to your routine: Pantene Pro-V Miracle Oil Treatment, Pantene Sweet Mess Texturising Sugar Hair Spray and Pantene Never Stray No Crunch Hair Spray, Pantene Leave-in Crème Frizz Control

In case you haven’t noticed, the ‘90s are back—and not just in our wardrobes. The decade is also dominating the beauty world, especially when it comes to hairstyles.

“If you want to have fun, the rounded ‘90s flip is for you,” says Mullins. “It’s certainly having a moment. The trend is a great way to flip all bob lengths and styles to make it more playful. I’m loving it tucked under and also flipped out. The middle is amazing and the side is sassy, especially with a cute hair accessory.”

This particular trend is just about everywhere you turn, with everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Kim Kardashian West putting their own spin on it. Lucky for us, it’s an easy enough one to pull off with just a few simple products.

To style, Mullins suggests using the Pantene Leave-in Crème Frizz Control, Pantene Never Stray No Crunch Hair Spray, as well as a round brush, blowdryer and a tong.

A fringe is a perfect way to add a French-girl twist to your hair, with this particular cut set down the middle with strands that frame both sides of your face. It might look hard to maintain, but the style is actually designed to flow naturally into your hair, which gives off that effortlessly cool, perfectly undone look.

“Bangs are back and I’m on board! A curtain bang frames your face like the piece of art it is,” Mullins says. “Also, such a great way to keep your length but give your hair that 2021 refresh.”

The key products to help maintain this particular cut, according to Mullins, are the Pantene Never Tell Dry Shampoo, Pantene Never Stray No Crunch Hair Spray, and Pantene Leave-in Crème Frizz Control.

“The shag haircut is back! It’s a cut that suits so many hair types,” says Mullins. “I particularly love my curly clients and this is so of the moment. It’s a great cut that you can let dry naturally or flip upside down and dry with a diffuser on your dryer for more volume and wow factor.”

According to Mullins, here are some of the products to add to your haircare routine if you’re opting for the curly shag this season: Pantene Pro-V Daily Moisture Renewal Shampoo and Pantene 3 Minute Miracle Repair & Protect Daily Hair Treatment, Pantene Leave-in Crème Frizz Control, Pantene Pro-V Miracle Oil Treatment, Pantene Sweet Mess Texturising Sugar Hair Spray.

Perhaps one of the most unexpected styles to dominate the beauty world lately is the mullet, which has returned in full swing.

“They are here and are for everyone! All identities, all abilities. I love this cut, it can be so versatile,” says Mullins. “Wear it up and rock out or flat and sleek, you’re the boss and this cut is for you. A lot of us are coming out of lockdown, so let’s be seen! I’m ready for some live music and rock‘n’roll hair. All you need is to channel some Miley or Rhianna and have some fun. Also, if you’re a little nervous (I get it) you can always opt for a longer shag version.”

To get the look, here are some of the products Mullins recommends: Pantene Sweet Mess Texturising Sugar Hair Spray, Pantene Never Stray No Crunch Hair Spray, Pantene Pro-V Miracle Oil Treatment.
